Some expert says that work on lightning protection is more likely a practical art than a logical technique. There are many quarrels about mechanism of lightning and difference lightning protection solutions.
Traditional lightning protection consists of Franklink air terminal, down conductor and grounding system. Nowadays, there are many new types of air terminal and new solutions for lightning protection. This fact have its good side that end-user have wide range to choose indeed but the bad side is many people feel confused or make choice badly.
It is important to note that not all of structures need to be protected from lightning and some new systems increase risk of lightning rather than protect.
To verify lightning system as third party, CISR2 has collected information from lightning system manufacturers (or constructors), equipped with modern measuring and testing equipment so that verification result can be correct and most useful information can be supplied to end-users.
Lightning protection system and electric power system should be checked for integrity regularly, not less then once per year. Earth resistance of grounding system increases gradually because of corrosion and loose of cable joins. The isolating layer of electric cable can be damaged after a using time. Read more
